SAINT MARY MAGDALENE NEWSLETTER

Issue #11                 November 9, 2007

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Part of being Catholic is knowing and living scripture, receiving the sacraments, and taking care of those in need. We have two events coming up that will take care of those in need. We will have a Dress Down for Turkeys on November 16. It will cost $1. This money will go directly to buy turkeys for the homeless on Thanksgiving Day. We will have an all-school mass on Wednesday November 21. I would like each student to bring an apple or an orange to put on the altar. This will also go to the Thanksgiving Day dinner. Thank you for assisting in teaching our children the true meaning of service.

SMM 8TH GRADE CIVICS CLUB

The 8th Grade Civics Club will hold its annual Canned Food Drive to provide assistance to needy Westside families.  Please send in canned goods and nonperishable food items from November 12 – 16.  The homeroom that brings in the most items based on average of students in homeroom will receive a pizza party.  Thank you!

COLD WEATHER

Please remember to bundle your children up appropriate with the weather conditions.  Many students are not wearing coats/jackets that will keep them warm outside at recess.

ST. MARY MAGDALENE CHOIR

Thinking about joining the choir?  Lend your God-given voice to give praise and worship to God!  St. Mary Magdalene Choir is looking for new members to join the ranks.  We are currently working on music for Advent and Christmas.  There are no auditions to join, and the ability to read music is not a requirement. If you are looking for a church ministry to share your talents, while contributing to a very important role in our church liturgy, look no further!  All are welcome! We sing at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, and our rehearsals are on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

MEMORIAL BRICK GARDEN

The Saint Mary Magdalene Memorial Brick Garden is a wonderful way to celebrate and honor past, present and future members of our parish and school community.  Each brick can contain three lines with each line containing thirteen characters.  The cost for each brick is $50.00 or two for $75.00.  You can obtain an order form at the display in the church gathering space, online at www.saintmarymag.org or in the school office.  Please contact Meg Cline at 853-3067 with any questions.

COAT DRIVE

SMM 8th annual Coat Drive will be held this year from October 29 – December 14.  Share the gift of warmth this winter.  Please bring clean, “gently used” or new children and adult winter coats, hats and gloves to the drop box located at the front school door.  All donations will be delivered to the West Side Free Store and distributed to the less fortunate.  There is a great need for these items this winter.  Please ask friends and family for donations.  If you have any questions, please call Sandy Bonneville, 875-5669.
