SAINT MARY MAGDALENE NEWSLETTER

Issue 9 -                       October 23, 2009

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Please remember November 4 and 5 are Parent/Teacher conferences.

Father Stan will be suspending the distribution of Precious Blood from the cup at masses until the flu epidemic passes. After consulting with the Health Department and the Chancery, Father feels this is the best decision for parishioners and Special Ministers.

STUDENT ABSENCES

The Columbus Health Department has asked schools to forgo the need for a doctor's excuse for students missing three consecutive days from classes. We will follow these guidelines. However, it is very important that we have a note from the parent for ANY absence from school and especially if a child has been out for several days.  Even if you call the school office we must have a note.

ART SHIRTS

Mrs. Boggess is requesting that her art students bring in an old shirt to use during messy projects to protect their clothing.  She suggested an old button-down shirt or a shirt that is large enough to protect the tops of pants and skirts.  If you want the shirt returned, please put your child’s name and grade inside the shirt collar.

ST. MARY MAGDALENE GARDEN CLUB

The SMM Garden Club cordially invites you to join us for our annual fall pruning and clean-up on Saturday, November 7 from 9:00am – 12:00.  We will meet at the Rectory Garage.  Please bring necessary tools, gloves, and a friend, or make it a family event!  Children are welcome to come help mom and dad!  A delicious luncheon will be provided.  If you have any questions, please call Mary, 279-2790 or Karen, 878-0845.

ST. MARY MAGDALENE 10th ANNUAL COAT DRIVE

Share the gift of warmth this winter.  The SMM annual coat drive will begin Monday, October 19 and will run through Friday, December 18.  Thanks to your ongoing support, over 1,000 coats have been donated to needy families!  Your assistance is needed again this year.  Please bring clean, “gently used” or new children and adult winter coats, hats and gloves to the drop box located inside the front school doors.  All donations will be distributed through the SMM St. Vincent DePaul Society to our less fortunate brother and sisters.  Please ask family, friends and coworkers for donations.  Thank you!  If you have any questions, please call Sandy Bonneville @ 875-5669.

OFFICIATING CLASSES

If you are interested in becoming a basketball official, classes will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Church beginning Wednesday, October 28th at 6:30PM.  Classes are open to anyone 14 years old (must be attending high school) and older.  After satisfactory completion of the course you will receive an Ohio High School Athletic Association license which enables you to officiate beginning in December, 2009.  Cost for classes is $105.00.  To enroll, or for more information, call Julius Palazzo at 614-276-9373 or email jmpalazzo@juno.com.
