SAINT MARY MAGDALENE NEWSLETTER

October 14, 2011

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Please remember that Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for November 2 and 3. This is a great opportunity to meet with your child's teacher regarding progress. It is important that this communication takes place in order for all students to benefit.  Letters will be sent home with each student next week with scheduling information.

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN WORKSHOP

St. Mary Magdalene is hosting a Protecting God's Children workshop and fingerprinting on Wednesday, November 14th in the Church hall.  Electronic fingerprinting will be done from 4:30-6:15 and the workshop will begin at 6:30.  The workshop is free, but the fee for fingerprinting is $40.00.  In order to volunteer at St. Mary Magdalene you must be fingerprinted, taken Protecting God's Children and completed a volunteer information form with code of conduct. To register go to www.virtus.org and click on registration on the left side of the page. For questions please call the school or rectory office.

CULVER’S NIGHT, OCTOBER 20!

We did so well last month, that Culver’s wants us back on Thursday, October 20th!  Please consider joining us on that date for dinner, ice cream, or both! SMM 8th graders will be serving tables and will receive 10% of all sales from 6:00pm – 9:00pm as well as any tips towards their spring trip.  Hope to see you on the 20th!

BASKETBALL SIGNUPS UNDERWAY

Signup forms for basketball are due Tuesday, October 18th. Failure to turn in forms by the 18th may cause your child to miss out on playing this year.  If you need a form see Mr. Palazzo or the school office.  Practices begin around November 10th.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council Bake Sale will be October 26th and 27th and not on the 28th which was in last week’s newsletter.

TRUNK OR TREAT

Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 30th at 3:00pm when the Knights of Columbus, Council 13581 sponsors their annual Trunk or Treat.  Children, preschool through 6th grade walk around the church and school going from parked car to parked car collecting Halloween goodies!  Cars, trucks, vans and SUV can be decorated (optional) and you can also dress up yourself and be a part of the fun while you hand treats out to the goblins.  If you are coming “decorated” please be here by 2:00.  We generally have several hundred goblins so many trunks with goodies are needed.  A form was sent home with each student with additional information and a place to volunteer to pass out treats.  If you are interested, please return the bottom portion of the form as soon as you can.

COAT DRIVE

Share the gift of warmth this winter.  SMM Church and School will hold its 13th Annual Coat Drive beginning October 15th through December 18th.  Please donate new or clean “gently used” children and adult winter coats, hats and gloves and place in the drop box located at the front doors.  All donations will be delivered to J.O.I.N. and distributed to the less fortunate.  There is a great need for coats this winter.  Please help as you are able and ask family and friends for donations.  If you have any questions, please call Sandy Bonneville, 875-5669.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

KILL TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE!  Shop for Christmas and support your church.   The Saint Mary Magdalene Holiday Bazaar is Saturday, November 12th from 9:00am to 6:00pm in the Church Hall featuring Toyland, sports items and gift items for all ages.  Handmade crafts, seasonal decorations including Christmas ornaments will also be sold along with a raffle for a handmade quilt.   Come early and stay for lunch!  If you would like to donate a craft to sell at the bazaar it would be greatly appreciated.  To donate items or if you have any questions please call Mary Gerlach, 274-8935.
