Please look for your child's interim reports today. We have made a real effort to educate our students in the area of bullying, especially verbal criticism and name calling. Derogatory terms, racial or ethnic slurs, and harsh names will not be tolerated. Violators will be suspended. Please reinforce this at home. It is our goal to be the best Catholic school possible and it begins with the way we treat each other.
Dear Students and Parents, Student Council will be writing a review of our meetings in the newsletters monthly. What we have discussed so far is ordering ribbons for Red Ribbon Week (Drug Free Week), which is October 23-31. In reference to bullying we have decided to create “Respect Hands” on which the students will write a positive word on a colorfully traced hand. These hands will fill the halls to brighten people’s day. Along with the hands, we will create a banner to hang up in the cafeteria with the names of all the students. We are also planning a bake sale on October 27-28. All proceeds will go to The James Research Center for Cancer at The Ohio State University. Another donation we have made is the Emergency Phone System. The donation of $160.00 will help pay the fee the school has to pay for this system. Thank You!
Past, Present, Future Night - The Bishop Ready Band is hosting Past, Present, Future Night tonight at the Ready vs. Lima Central Catholic football game. SMM 6-8th grade band students are invited to play with the Ready Band on the field! Come see your St. Mary Magdalene Band in action! Pre-game starts at about 7:10pm. Game starts at 7:30.
Thank you to the St. Mary Magdalene parish and school community for your support of our first SMM Night at Culver’s Restaurant. Our 8th graders raised over $600 for their class trip. We did so well that Culver’s wants us back on Thursday, October 20th! Please consider joining us on that date for dinner or ice cream. SMM will receive 10% of all sales from 6:00pm – 9:00pm as well as any tips. Hope to see you on the 20th!
Signups for basketball are currently being conducted for boys and girls grades 4 through 8. Registration will continue through October 18th. Signup forms were distributed this week and are also available in the school office or rectory. If you have any questions, please call Bruce or Paula Tokar, 272-2014.
Starting Monday, October 10th through Friday, October 28th, Home and School will have a classroom Box Tops competition. The class who brings in the most Box Tops during these 2 weeks will receive a Dress Down Day. The Box Tops will be placed in a clear container and will be displayed in the cafeteria for all of the students to see so they can see which class is in the lead. This will give the students an extra incentive to bring in many Box Tops for their class. If you could neatly cut the Box Tops on the dotted lines, it would be greatly appreciated. We will have a classroom competition each quarter. Our next competition will run from October 31st through January 13th. Please continue to send in Box Tops to help support our school. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents when our school redeems them. This money is used to purchase learning tools for the students. Last school year, we earned close to $1,000 for our school! The class who collects the most Box Tops overall for the school year, will have a pizza party at the end of the school year. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Grimm, 309-4992. Thank you for all of your support!! GOOD LUCK Students!!
Share the gift of warmth this winter. SMM Church and School will hold its 13th Annual Coat Drive beginning October 15th through December 18th. Please donate new or clean “gently used” children and adult winter coats, hats and gloves and place in the drop box located at the front doors. All donations will be delivered to J.O.I.N. and distributed to the less fortunate. There is a great need for coats this winter. Please help as you are able and ask family and friends for donations. Thank you and God Bless! If you have any questions, please call Sandy Bonneville, 875-5669.
